Manchester Board of Domestic Pets

You can imagine my excitement when I was asked to be the official portrait photographer of the Manchester elected Board of Domestic pets - and well you can also imagine my surprise when I found out it was 2 dogs, 1 lamb and a rat!!

What an opportunity to expand my portrait vision from dogs and cats to these other kinds of animals. It took some patience and some creative thinking to capture the attention of animals that don’t care too much about sounds and aren’t able to follow a treat in my hand, like a dog can.

For Allie, the lamb, I captured some adorable photos of her in different poses, however none of them were the straight on angle I was looking for. At the very end of the session, I was chatting with her owner and as we were petting Allie, she was just standing perfectly still! That gave me the idea to have her owner standing next to her and petting her - and well you can see her happy smile.

Next up was the rat named Sir Edmund Hillary! I knew from the name that this was going to be one cool little guy. And he really was - although not at all interested in me or my silly sounds. I did manage to capture one of him looking straight ahead - but when I saw him go up on his hind legs with his whiskers in the air and his little hands (paws?) in front - I knew this was the keeper.

Fenway and Tori were both naturals in front of the camera and look absolutely stunning in their portraits.

These portraits are on display at Workspace Manchester Galleries in Manchester, CT and I encourage you to go check them out in their beautiful ornate, gold frames.
