Recap: Summer Pet Portrait Sessions

This summer has been full of really fun pet portrait sessions here at Paw Print Studio in West Hartford. I love that every dog brings something different - and the owners as well!

Bennet
Bennet is a loyal service dog that is celebrating his 2nd gotcha day - so his mom brought him in for the second year in a row to celebrate. She has now made it a tradition to book his portrait session on his gotcha day each year. I love the idea of documenting his growth and personality over time - it makes each year’s session even more special. There’s also something so fun about watching a service dog let loose and be their goofy self!

Atticus
Atticus might be one of the tiniest dogs I’ve ever photographed! Because he has epilepsy, it was important that we avoid standard strobe lighting. I used my alternate continuous lighting setup, which doesn’t flash. It’s a bit more of a technical challenge, but it keeps dogs calm and comfortable - and the results are just as good. I invested in these lights last year and it has proven to be incredibly valuable - dogs that would either be too afraid of the flashing lights or have conditions such as epilepsy like Atticus, can still have their portraits done with me. And with a name like Atticus, we had to capture a few photos with his namesake book!

Penelope
Penelope came in with her moms, who brought some really fun ideas to the session - including a shot with her mom’s boots (she’s a paramedic) that turned out beautifully. We also created the perfect vertical montage for their wall, a design that fits seamlessly into their home and highlights her personality.

More Summer Faces
It’s been a great summer and I’m looking forward to more sessions this fall. Here are a few more from the summer!
